W Stuart Houghton, 72, of 154 E Congress st., Corry, died shortly before midnight, Thursday. August 20 1970. in Hamot Hospital, in Erie, following a short illness. He was born January 26, 1898 in Garland, the son of the late William and Carrie Palmer Houghton. He attended Youngsville schools He served with the 28th division on the Mexican border. 1916, during WWI he was with Company A 28th division in Europe in the intervenirg years he was Company Com- mander of Company A in Corry and also was an independent insurance agent During WWII he was a battalion commander in Europe and was wounded August 3. 1944 and retired from the military as a full Colonel He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Corry Masonic Lodge, Corry Elks. past commander of the Corry VFW. director of the Pine Grove Cemetery Association He resided in the Garland area until the end of W W I. He is survived by his wife Mrs Daisy Clark Houghton, to whom he was married in 1957 Mrs Phylis Cervola, Corry two step-sons. Nobel B Clark Pitlst eld Gifford Clark, Fort Lauder- dale, Fla 14 grandchildren, three great grandsons. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Genevieve Morris Houghton in 1954; a son, Randall Houhton in 1927; a twin brother, Randall Houghton, killed in France during WWI.
BiographyLove: "Stuart, or "Bill" Houghton was one of the few members of Company of the 112th Infantry of the 28th Division to return from the First World War. He remained with the 112th Infantry until 1943. [CJV: not in 1930] At the outbreak of World War II, he was Captain of the reorganized Company A, when they were inducted into the Federal service. He became Major in 1941, Lt. Colonel in 1942, and since then has been made a full Colonel. He was severely wounded during the Normandy invasion and spent many months in the hospitals. He was "Col. Bill" to his men and dubbed by them "Wild Bill".6

Cervola Phyllis Josephine Houghton Cervola, 82, who resided in Corry for most of her life, passed with peace and dignity from the Rouse Warren County Home in Youngsville, Pa. to the house of the Lord on Wednesday the 31st day of December 2008. In departing, Phyllis joins in communion with her God, who has held for her, her loving parents W. S. and Genevieve Morris Houghton and her brother, Randall Houghton. Phyllis was born in Corry on January 11, 1926. She was raised and educated in Corry where she graduated from Corry High School and then attended Mercyhurst College. Over the years, she worked for various businesses in Corry including Rosen’s Men’s Store and Leo’s Men’s Wear. For many years, Phyllis worked at Corry Jamestown Corp where she was supervisor of the computer room. Her position enabled her to travel across the country as a computer trouble shooter. Following her retirement, she owned and operated a novelty shop, Something Special in Corry. This fulfilled her life-long dream of owning a business. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Corry, a former Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and was ordained as an Elder. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as the Worthy Matron two terms. Phyllis leaves to honor her memory and the many contributions and sacrifices she made to their lives, her daughters, Amy Beason and her husband, Carl of Columbus, Pa., Camila Johnston and her husband, William of Blue Bell, Pa., Penni Panza and her husband, Joseph of Vandergrift, Pa and her son, William Cervola and his wife, Monica of Long Beach, Calif. Also by eleven grandchildren, Travis Eckstrom (Carrie), James Eckstrom (Carole), Phillip Eckstrom, Joshua Johnston (Happiness), Colby Johnston (Tina), Kara Johnston, Todd Knapp (Renee’), Tony Knapp (Sarah), Timothy Knapp, Christopher Cervola and Nicholis Cervola and nine great grandchildren, Alexis Eckstrom, Gabrielle Eckstrom, Allison Eckstrom, Maison Eckstrom, T. J. Knapp, Michelle Knapp, Micah Knapp and Shannon Knapp. Friends may call at the First Presbyterian Church, 607 W. Smith St., Corry, Pa. on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service there at 12 noon. Rev. Dr. Karen Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery Corry, Pa.
