Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Saturday in Corry for William M. Houghton. 87 year old resident of 335 Mead avenue, who died at Corry Memorial Hospital shortly after 12:30 a. m. Thursday. He had been admitted there February 24. Elder Thomas Dobbs will officiate. and interment will be in Pine Grove cemetery. Mr. Houghton was born in Nunda. N. Y., on September 4. 1871. As a young man he moved | to Garland, where he was employed in his uncle’s store. After his marriage to Carrie Palmer ! on January 15, 1896, he lived in Youngsville and later in Garland, where he operated his own grocery store. He moved to Corry in 1916 and worked at Aero Supply Manufacturing Company, Inc., I during World War I, and later ? managed the Corry A & P ; store until his retirement 11 years ago. Mr. Houghton was preceded in death by his wife on June 23, 1958. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. Survivors include one son, W. S. Houghton, Corry; two sisters, Grace Houghton and Mrs. Miller Hull. both of Clinton, N. Y; one granddaughter, Mrs. Frank Cervola; four great-grandchildren, all of Corry. One son, Randall, was killed in World War I.

WALTER E. HOUGHTON; Former Stamford Banker Once Sang in Church Choirs. Greeenwich, Conn., March 22--Walter Edwards Houghton of Brookside Avenue, a former treasurer of the Citizens Savings Bank of Stamford, died in the Greenwich Hospital this evening after a brief illness. He would been 69 years old on Monday.
From 1920 until his retirement a few years ago Mr. Houghton was connected with the New York stock brokerage house of Rose, Cammann & Co. He was born in Brooklyn, a son of the late Joseph Goodhue Houghton, who ws First Selectman of Stamford and president of the Fidelity Title and Trust Company of Stamford.
Mr. Houghton had sung in the choirs of the Madison Avenues Baptist Church, New York, and the Presbyterian Church of Stamford. He belonged to the Stamford Yacht Club and the Suburban Club of Stamford. He leaves a widow, nancy Acheson Houghton; a son, Walter E. jr., and a daughter, Mrs. Nancy H. Cumming.

BiographyHerbert Pierrepont Houghton (1880-1964) was a Professor of Classics at Carleton from 1923 to 1950. Dr. Houghton came to Carleton from Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where he served as president from 1918 to 1920. He received his B.A. (1901) and M.A. (1904) from Amherst College and his Ph.D. (1907) from the Johns Hopkins University. At Carleton, Dr. Houghton taught courses in Greek, linguistics , Anglo-Saxon and Sanskrit. He was also an expert on the Basque language. His publications include: The Moral Significance of Animals as Indicated in Greek Proverbs (Amherst: Carpenter and Morehouse, 1915); The Coptic Verb, Bohairic Dialect (Leiden: E.J. Brill, 1959) and Introduction to the Basque Language, Labourdin Dialect (Leiden: E.J. Brill, 1961).
