Biography'Sarah Ann Hand was born 27 April 1850 on the farm two miles from Hawley, the younges child of Robert and Susan Hand. She was only four years old when her father died. She became a teacher and started to teach in the county schools at the age of fifteen. She graduated from Millersville Normal School and taught in Lancaster, Wayne, Pike, and Chester Counties for fifteen years. On 18 May 1880 she married Jonathan Brown who was a widower with three children... Sarah Hand Brown was active in church and temperance work. She was instrumental in promoting the study of physiology and hygiene in the schools of Wayne County. She died in the Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Pa., on Tuesday, 9 Feb. 1915 after a serious operation performed by Dr. Wainwright, assisted by Dr. David B. Hand, her brother. She was buried in the Paupack Eddy Cemetery.1'

Biography'Jeremiah W. Hand was born 6 August 1868 and died in the Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Pa. on 19 June 1937. He and Minnie Myrtle Engle, daughter of Thomas and Mary Engle of Hamlin, Wayne Co., Pa., were married 2 Dec. 1896 in Dunmore, Pa., by the Rev. Charles Hayes. She was born in 1872 at Hamlin and died 16 Apr. 1965, aged 92 years, in their home in Dunmore. Both she and her husband were buried in Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore. In the Scranton City Directories we find this information: in 1895 Jerry Hand was living with his parents at 355 Mill St., Dumore, employed as a clerk; in 1896 he was a weighmaster; in 1904 he was living at 519 Fifth St., Dunmore where he and his wife lived for the rest of their lives; in 1905 he was an inspector; in 1906, a clerk; in 1910 he was a checker for the Erie Railroad Shop; in 1912 he was a clerk, working for the Laurel Line Railroad Company, which was an electric railroad running between Scranton and Wilkes Barre, Pa., He continued to work in the Scranton office of the Laurel Line until his death. Jerry often had headaches and couldn't sleep at night. It was at times like these that he wrote poetry, which was published in the 'Poet's Corner' in newspapers, some of his poems were published in An Anthology of Poems; and a few were used in hymns...Jeremiah and Minnie Hand had no issue.2'

Biography'Charles was the third living son of William J. and Catherine Hand. He was born 2 Jan. 1874 at Ariel, Wayne Co. On 25 Dec. 1884 he received a Bible from his parents as a Christmas present. On 28 Feb. 1887 he was taking lunch to his father in the railroad yards of the Scranton branch of the Erie & Wyoming Valley Railroad. His father was backing up an engine and didn't see his son and, for some reason, Charles was not alert to the situation. He was hit by the engine, lived until 4 March 1887, when he died of injuries received. He was 14 years, 2 months, and 2 days old. William J., his father, never ran a railroad engine again. Charles was buried in the Hand plot in the East Canaan cemetry, South Canaan Township, Wayne County.2'

Biography'After attending Dunmore Public Schools he went to work for the land surveyors at the Pennsylvania Coal Co. He continued this work for three years, surveying in Pike, wAyne, Luzerne, and Lackawanna Counties. he interrupted his work, attending lackawanna Business College, having previously attended Wood's Business College. His next job was assistant loaded weigh-master at Barnum Breaker in Duryea. His next jobs were - colliery storekeeper at #5 breaker, car shops of the Erie Railroad in Dunmore, conductor with the Scranton Railway Traction Co., paymaster's office of the Scranton Bolt & Nut Co. During these early years he took an active part in amateur athletics, playing football for several years at various positions - center, guard, and half-back. In baseball he played with a team called the Dunmore Bluebirds, a second class team on which he played catcher adn for a while as second baseman. As a runner he was an unattached miler. At the age of nineteen he became a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Dunmore and was an usher there for many years. On 23 December 1903, Floyd B. Hand of Dunmore, and Anna Miller of Scranton were married in the parsonage of the Dunmore Methodist Church by the Rev. Charles H. Newing. Mr. Hand took a new job as foreman in the Stores Department of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad in Scranton. Wanting to leave the city, the family moved first to Moscow for a few years and then to Clarks Summit in 1917 where they stayed. He continued to work in Scranton, but was interested in farming on the eleven acre property he bought there. About 1927 Floyd Hand, my father, changed his position with the Lackawanna Railroad and accepted a position as manager of shipping for the Scranton Tobacco Company of Scanton. This position he held until his retirement in 1945. Prior to his retirement wife Anna died 11 December 1942 while their two sons Ralph and Robert, were in the Armed Forces during World War II. She died at home and was buried in the Hand plot in Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore, Pa., on 14 December 1942. He lived in retirement with his son Ralph and daughter Dorothy until his death in the Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton, Pa., on 28 January 1958. he was buried on 28 January in the Hand plot in the Dunmore Cemetery.2'
