EVANSVILLE - Martine L. Houghton, 96, of Evansville passed away Thursday, July 10, 2003, at her residence. Martine had worked at Servel, Chrysler Corp. and Good Samaritan Home. She also worked for Stahl Packing Co. and Busler's. The owner of three local restaurants, Martine also owned a ceramic shop. A favorite pastime for Martine was gardening. She was a member of Abundant Faith Church for over 40 years.

She is survived by five daughters, Mary L. Horne of Evansville, Lois Miller of Irvington, Doris Pemberton of Henderson, Donna Marshall of Crosby, Texas, and Barbara Brinker of Boonville, Ind; three sons, James Houghton and Charles Houghton, both of Evansville, and Loran Houghton of Newburgh, Ind; a sister, Ruth Wingfield of Owensboro; a brother, Dearwood Basham of Slaughters; 50 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Houghton, in 1963; one son, James Edward Houghton; daughters, Della Staup, Juanita Kissinger, Nellie Cummings, Joyce Ann Houghton and Mary Juanita Houghton.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 14, at Browning Funeral Home and burial at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., and from 10 a.m. until service time on Monday, July 14. Contributions may be given to Deaconess Ohio Valley Hospice or Abundant Faith Church.6

Surviving are daughters, Beverly Foster of Evansville, IN, and Elma Bush, (John), of Evansville, IN, Sons, Michael Horne (Vickie) of Elberfeld, IN, Larry Horne, (Rhonda), of Evansville, IN, Gary Horne, (Paula), of Evansville, IN, Jerry Horne, (Beth), of Winst, NC, sisters, Lois Miller, Doris Pemberton, Donna Marshall, and Barbara Brinker, brothers, James, Charles and Loran Houghton, grandchildren, Dennis Horne, Denise Del Pizzo, Nichoel Roy, Dina Angermeier, Cammie Frank, Darla Jill Jackson, Andrew Horne, Natalie Seto, Ashely Presley, David Bush, Aubrie Bush, Bethany Bush, Brad Horne, B.J. Horne, Olivia Horne and Benjamin Horne, 26 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Mary Louise Horne was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Juanitta Kissinger, Della Staup and Nellie Cummings.

Barbara was born in Evansville, Indiana on Oct. 25, 1944 to the late Oliver and Martine (Basham) Houghton. She was loved and will be remembered for the many lives she touched as a daycare owner and operator to many children that went on to have very productive lives, and never put herself first when it came to the needs of the many. Barbara was of strong Christian faith and never hesitated to volunteer for anything that would help her family and friends or strangers for that matter. Her studies in social work brought much clarity to her in later years.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Rita Gail (Butler) Whitney of Chandler, IN; son, Donald Lee Brinker of Los Angeles, CA; sister, Doris Pemberton of Henderson, KY; brothers Jim Houghton and Loran Houghton both of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Eric Whitney (Amy), Stephen Whitney, Devan Coomes, Kira Coomes, and Lyric Brinker; great-grandchildren, Emmett, Wyatt, Elli, Aden, Brooklyn, and Xavier Whitney; and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Della Staup, Juanita Kissinger, Mary Home, Nellie Cummings, Lois Miller, Joyce Houghton, Mary Houghton, and Donna Marshall; and Brothers, Charles Houghton and James Houghton.

Lois was born in Evansville, Indiana, on September 16, 1937, to the late Oliver P. and Martine L. (Basham) Houghton. She worked at Walmart for 10 years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Elberfeld. Lois had a green thumb and enjoyed being in her flower garden. She especially loved being with her family during the Christmas season.
Lois is survived by her sons, Michael Cummings (Vivian), of Haubstadt, IN, Curtis Cummings (Lisa), of Cecilia, KY, and Bill Miller (Dawn), of Brandenburg, KY; siblings, Jim Houghton, Charlie Houghton, Doris Pemberton, Loren Houghton and Barbara Brinker; grandchildren, Tim Cummings, Jarrod Cummings (Kenda), Chester Gray (Amanda), Denny Gray (Jessie), Lee Grant Cummings (Crystal), Amanda Daniels (Sammy), C.J. Cummings, Austin Cummings, Billy Cummings, Rebecca Twyman and Lauren Miller (Josh); and several great-grandchildren.
Lois was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin Cummings; second husband, Bill Miller Sr; her most recent companion, David Collins; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and George Gray; and other brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 E. Diamond Avenue, Evansville, IN 47711, with Pastor David Schulz officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 2 until 8 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2014, at Browning Funeral Home and again from 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.

ObituaryDonna F. (Houghton) Marshall, of Crosby, TX, passed away on May 5, 2012.

She was born on June 7, 1943 in Evansville, Indiana, daughter of Martine (Basham) and Oliver Houghton. Donna was a loving mother, sister, friend and her most beloved role as Grammy. She was a member of Newport Baptist Church.

Donna is survived by her son, George Marshall and his wife Renee, her daughter, Ginger Marshall (Kinchen) and her husband Kendall, her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Beth Marshall, sisters, Lois Miller, Doris Pemberton, and Barbara Brinker, and brothers, James, Charles and Loran Houghton.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Juanitta Kissinger, Della Staup, Nellie Cummings and Mary Louise Horne.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Avenue, Evansville,Indiana 47711. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

ObituaryMay 21, 2018Charles E. Houghton, 78, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018 at his home.

Charles was born in Evansville, Indiana on June 29, 1939 to the late Oliver P. and Martine (Basham) Houghton. He was a graduate of North High School. Charles served in the United States Navy for eight and a half years. He retired from Alcoa after 18 years as a Maintenance Supervisor. Charles was a foster parent for Catholic Charities for 33 years and he was a member of North Haven General Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and bowling.

Charles is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara (Mayer) Houghton of Evansville, IN; daughters, Lisa Marie Hampton and Rose Cotton (Art) both of Evansville, IN; sons, Anthony "Tony" Houghton of FL; Bruce Houghton; Chuck Houghton (Stephanie); Robert "Bobby" Houghton; David Houghton (Audra); and Joshua Houghton (Destinee) all of Evansville, IN; sisters, Doris Pemberton of Evansville, IN and Barbara Brinker of Boonville, IN; brothers, James Houghton of Evansville, IN and Loran Houghton (Beverly) of Newburgh, IN; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Della Staub, Juanita Kissinger, Louise Horne, Nellie Cummings, Lois Miller, and Donna Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery where the Retired Veteran Memorial Club will conduct military rites. Published in Courier Press on May 21, 2018

ObituaryLoran Houghton, 76, of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away Monday, July 18, 2022 at his home.

Loran was born in Evansville, Indiana on December 24, 1945 to the late Oliver and Martine (Basham) Houghton. He graduated from North High School and married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Jewell, in 1964. Loran honorably served in the United State Navy. He later worked for Benerson and Alcoa. Loran loved spending time with his kids and many grandkids, riding his motorcycle, and traveling in his RV.

Loran is survived by his children, Ricky Houghton (Pamela) of Wexford, PA, Robin Craig of Newburgh, IN, Ryan Houghton (Kimberly) of Chandler, IN, Randy Houghton (Lindsay) of Rockport, IN, Rhonda Houghton of Newburgh, IN, Martha Holder (Terry) of Spottsville, KY, and David Houghton (Maddison) of GA; sister, Doris Pemberton of Evansville, IN; brother, Jim Houghton of Evansville, IN; 30 grandchildren; one great-grandson, Atticus Boyd; numerous foster kids that all called him "Dad"; and several nieces and nephews.

Loran was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Beverly J. (Jewell) Houghton; his parents; siblings, Charles Houghton, Louise Horne, Lois Miller, Donna Marshall, Barbara Brinker, Della Staub, Nellie Cummings, Juanita Kissinger, Mary J. Houghton, Joyce Ann Houghton, and James Houghton.

A celebration of Loran's life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711, with Pastor Steve Clayton officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
