BiographyWas a Methodist preacher in [Lamar County?]

Was married twice - - According to information received by Ron Duncan, a descendant of James M. Campbell, James M's second wife was Maria Elizabeth Wright.

A Pioneer Dead

Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock J.M. Campbell died at his home, about 2 miles west of Deport, of pneumonia and his remains were laid to rest at the Mt. Pleasant burying ground Tues afternoon, Rev. Anderson of Paris conducting the services.

Mr. Campbell was born in Cass county about 58 years ago and had lived in this section for more than forty years, having moved here when a boy. He was a member of the Methodist Protestant Church and had been a preacher for 15 years. He was well known to our citizens and by all, he was a devout man and ever ready to lend a helping hand to a fallen brother.
Mr. Campbell had been married twice and leaves seven children, four by his first wife, and three by his second wife who survives him.
To the grief-stricken family we offer our tenderest sympathy.

OccupationJames was given the Elk Horn Wagon Yard of San Angelo to opeate, he worked there from the late 1800's to the early 1920's when theat was the last of the eight wagon yards in the area.
JAMES WESLEY JOHNSON & HIS WIFE ANNIE DEE HOUGHTON, ran the Elk Horn Wagon Yard, in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas from late 1800's to late 1920;s.....San Angelo, had about 8-10 wagon yards in booming business in the 1800's, then one by one as automoblies came to town, they folded. James & Annie's wagon yard was the longest one in business.....abt 1929.....his was the only one still running, by 1949 it closed.....the yard covered almost an entire block on the South side of Concho
Res. InterKaren Weir:
I have been trying to figure out what happened to James Wesley Johnson;s mother , Mary Ann Johnson for 10 years. I know that there are some folks that have been looking longer..............Also James had a sister, Louisa Ambler Johnson, who married Thomas Jefferson Powell..........Thomas came to James Wesley Johnson one night; as they were partners together in cattle business, asking him to buy him out because the next day he and his family were going to Bolivia, South America, He would not explain why........and the next day they were gone, and were never heard from again. Story goes that apparently Thomas& his sons had found some of that treasure that had been hidden in the caves of Castle Gap TX and made off with it...............the treasure story is real, I am certain over the years it has been embellished, having said that it is history, the story of the emperor of Mexico, Maxmillian, gold and treasures been stolen from a train and hidden in the Castle Gap mts, People to this very day, still try digging in the area in hopes of finding something..........this family apparently disappeared around late 1800, early 1900...........have not had much luck in trying to get information from the Bolivian consulate.5

EmailMar 3, 2001I was told at the Tower when I was there that Ralph was a basterd son of Thomas, and I was able to get a copy, but the real truth is unknown. as you say. So the chances of going back to Adam are the same as every Tom, Dick and Harry that you meet on the street. There may be a break thru sometime. Alot of what I have seen say he or John were from Eaton Bay.

Would you like an ancestry chart from Silas to Ralph? Yes I would hope to have one up to and including me. When it is possible.

PS: Charlie I have an uncle living who worked almost all of 96 years on our part of the Houghton genealogy and handed down the job to me. His name is Ed and there is his sister and my dad who is 94 years old. What a Thrill at there age to get a letter from you that they would have there names in a most recent copy of the Houghton geneallogy I know I would be honored. There I also William Edgar. He was in the Civil War on the side of the South. National Archives record have a picture of him in uniform. Was at Camp Moore, LA. Thanks for your time, Richard, 10th Gen. Ralph
