Brown co. World, Hiawatha, KS, USA, Chester Houghton was struck by a Grand Island freight train Friday afternoon and had his arm fractured and his shoulder badly torn and bruised. The train crew were switching in the Hiawatha yards and Houghton was picking up coal along the tracks. As the train passed by him, he stepped too close and was struck by a passing car. He is a rather feeble old man and the shock was almost as bad as the injury. However he is getting along nicely now and will probably recover in spite of the effect of the collision. He walked home before the train crew reached him and they supposed he was not hurt.

Chester Houghton died at the Pacific House Friday morning at the age of 83. Some time ago he received injuries by being struck by a freight car. Mr. Houghton came here about three years ago from Auburn, Neb. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Baxter Waters Saturday at three o'clock. Interment was made in the old cemetery.

It is possible that Elden is buried in the Seattle, WA area, because his wife Sarah appears as a married woman on the 1920 census there, in the household of her daughter, Marcia Durkee. The Civil War Pension application Sarah filed, where she is listed as a widow, is dated July 11, 1924. Sarah moved to Los Angeles with Marcia and grandchildren in 1928, according to the Durkee Family Newsletter, where she died and is buried without Elden in 1947.
Another possibility is that Elden is in fact enumerated on the 1920 Census as Edens C. Parlin, Inmate of the National Military Home in Sawtelle, Los Angeles Co., CA. This individual is 81 years old, and was born in ME, as were his parents. It is noteworthy that Sarah and daughter Marcia move down there.³
