Mr. Houghton was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice I). Houghton, in 1993; and daughter Susan Houghton, in 1962.
He is survived by his son, Edward Houghton of San Diego; daughters Mary E. West of El Dorado Hills, Wendy Kirby of Indianapolis, Ind., Judy Booth of Cedar Springs, Mich., and Nancy Brandt of Hemet; sister Aleen Oligney of Lamont, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and six great

NoteRobert's house has been remodeled by Brad in 2018 for the second time. Each remodel was taken down to the bare structure. Brad moved rooms around, pipes and electrical with very little help. It took him over a year to complete. The family farm has been in the family since 1841.

HOUGHTON, Robert W. - Age 80, of Swartz Creek, died Saturday, December 21, 2002 at Mission Hospital in Texas. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday, December 26, 2002 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Pastor Dan Cavan officiating. Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Linden with veteran's honors performed. Visitation will be held from 6-9 PM Tuesday and from 10 AM until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. No visitation will be held on Wednesday. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Boy Scouts of America, Tall Pine Council or the American Heart Assocaition. Mr. Houghton was born February 21, 1922 in Swartz Creek, the son of Wade and Ebodema "Jessie" (Moore) Houghton. He was a 1941 graduate of Swartz Creek High School and was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving during World War II. Mr. Houghton married Rita J. Miller on July 20, 1946 in Rankin and she preceded him in death on October 27, 1997. He retired from General Motors in 1982 after 41 years of service. Mr. Houghton was a life long resident of Swartz Creek, living in his family home that was built in 1800 and he was born in, he and his wife operated a strawberry farm for many years. He enjoyed traveling and was a Scoutmaster and Assistant District Commissioner of the Scouts for many years. Surviving are: four children, Nina and husband, Roger Nelson of Dansville, MI, Lawrence and wife, Robin, Houghton of Kalamazoo, Bradley and wife, Jean Houghton of Swartz Creek, Terry and husband, Jim Reed of IA; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Smith of Swartz Creek, Maud Bourassia of Flint; brother-in-law, Brad Miller of Grand Blanc. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Vern Bourassia. His parents also preceded him in death.
