BiographyGail Clarke: Fanny Eliza Houghton (1860 - 1920) married Andrew A. Foster (1851 - 1923), on Dec. 23, 1880. He was a student of Grinnell College and a successful businessman
in Grinnell who, for a time, was a partner in the hardware business with Ithiel S. Bailey. He also sold livestock and had a good farm outside of Grinnell. They were
members of the Congregational Church, where Andrew was a trustee for several years. He also was on the Grinnell City Council and was a member of the Elks
Lodge. They belonged to the Congregational Church, and he was a member of the church Board of Trustees. Their home was destroyed in the tornado of 1882. Fannie
and Andrew had no children of their own, but had an adopted daughter named Lily. Fannie provided the information for her father's death certificate. Fannie herself died
of cancer. She and her husband, Andrew Foster, were prominent Grinnell, IA residents.4
