However, James was born seven years earlier than the start of their marriage. While Marjorie stated on the 1930 Census that she had been married in 1923/4 and was divorced by the time of the 1930 Census,

Chattanooga, TN, USA, HAUGHTON, MARJORIE ELSIE, passed away at her residence, 3215 Rosemont Drive, early yesterday afternoon after a long illness. She is survived by her husband, W. C. Haughton; three sons, James, Coleman and Thomas of this city; parents, Mn and Mrs. I. A. Levan. of this city; three sisters, Mrs. Virginia Parker, Mrs. Sammie Davies, both of Chattanooga, and Mrs. Reba Burton of Rome, Ga; three brothers, Kenneth and Vernon Levan of this city, and Woodrow Levan of - Decherd, Tenn. Mrs. Haughton has been a resident of Chattanooga during her entire life. The deceased was a member of the Brainerd Baptist Church, and belonged to the Ruth Class. Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Monday) at 2:30 from the chapel of Page-Hancock Funeral Home, with Rev. Frank, Collins and Rev James Pless officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with the following serving as active pallbearers: J. C. Copenhover, Glenn Morris, William Shipman, F. H. Wright, John Allyene and Harry Lee Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ruth Class. All pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home at 2:15.

Rick Kissiah: I say possibly as to Sheryl because there are two, possibly three ladies who are in the family who go by the nickname Sherry or variations on the spelling of same, the Sherry I talked to told me that she was the daughter of James, Sr.'s brother or half brother Thomas Russell Haughton, but the obituary on James Haughton, Jr. lists her as a sister of his.¹
