Pioneer Railroad Man Dies
Enos Houghton Tucker, Aged 93, Began Service in 1849
Boston, Dec. 30.--The death at Needham to-day of Enos Houghton Tucker at the age of 93 removed one of the pioneer railroad men of New England.
In 1849 Mr. Tucker entered the employ of the Norfolk County and Boston and Providence Railroad. He worked for this company first as station agent and afterward as conductor and Superintendent. In 1867 he became Superintendent of the Woonsocket Division of the Boston, Hartford, and Erie Railroad, afterward changed to New York and New England Railroad, and now a part of the Central Division of the New York, New Haven and Hartford. He kept this position until his retirement from railroad life, about ten years ago.
In his early manhood Mr. Tucker was a Whig in politics. He cast his first vote for Daniel Webster in 1836. He united himself with the Republican Party at its inception, and had been actively identified with it since that time2
