EmailMay 16, 2009Hi, I am looking for any history on William HOUGHTON born 1822 in New York. He moved to Ohio before 1845. Lorain County, Ohio Genealogy said he married Almira Grinnella on 2-13-1845. They had a daughter that I know of Almina (Mina) Houghton born on 11-18-1848 in Lorain County,Ohio. Her mother died shortly after birth on 12-14-1848. A transcription of her grave (Ridgelawn Cemetery Elyria, Lorain County, OH)) in 1930 said her parents were Stephen and Esther Reynolds. A picture of the stone was sent to me and you can no longer read it. In the 1850 Census Almina was living with her grandparents Stephen and Esther Grinnolds and not her father William. In 1860 Census Almina is living with Steph and Esther Griswold. Parts of an obituary for Elmina (Williams wife) is online and her maiden name was Grenolds. I sent away for the whole obit from The Lower Sandusky Telegraph, but the person said it was missing. I have not found another source for this paper as of yet.
The names in red are all the same people and I am not sure which is correct.
William was in the Civil War. He signed up in Jackson, MI. Remarried to Ella Tottan in Ridgeway, MI on 5-2-1878 and had three more children. William died on 4-28-1886 in Empire, Leelanau County, MI (Leelanau County Death Records also Michigan Deaths 1867-1897 at familysearch.com records) .His daughter married Abram Packard and she lived in Leelanau County, MI. Mina died 6-30-1920 (Grand Traverse County Records) and buried in East Kasson Cemetery in Leelanau County, MI. I am not sure when William moved to Michigan or if he came with his daughter Mina. Mina was in Lenawee County, MI for awhile as Mrs.Abram Packard. I am not sure if they married in Ohio (he was born there also) or Michigan. This is all I have right now, do you have any more info on this family?
Thank you,
Lynn (ggg granddaughter of William)

HAFB officials have not released the pilot's name but TV station WLOS in North Carolina is reporting that the pilot killed was from that state. According to a report on the station's Web site, the family of 28-year-old Air Force Captain George Bryan Houghton was notified Tuesday morning that he did not survive the crash.

The fighter jet went down at the Utah Test and Training Range around 10:25 p.m. Monday night, according to Air Force authorities. A search team located the wreckage of the plane in a remote area of the range.

Memorial services Friday for Capt. Houghton

A memorial service has been set for 4:21 p.m. Friday in Hangar 37 to honor the life and service of Capt. George Houghton, a 388th Fighter Wing pilot who died when the F-16 he was flying crashed at the Utah Test and Training Range Monday.

Capt. George Houghton was part of a four-ship of F-16s flying a close air support mission that involved training with ground forces. The Candler, N.C., native was part of the 421st Fighter Squadron.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and our condolences go out to George's family and the 421st Fighter Squadron," said Col. Scott Dennis, 388th Fighter Wing commander. "We lost an irreplaceable member of our Air Force and he will be greatly missed."

The wing ceased flying operations the day after the mishap, but resumed its flying schedule on Wednesday.

"Although this has been a difficult time for us all, the biggest honor we deliver to him is to continue his work and get back to the mission," Dennis said. "The training he was doing was critical to our Air Force and nation. He was getting ready for an upcoming deployment where he would have saved countless lives overseas."

Houghton's wife, Josie, offered her appreciation for the support she's received.

"I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
