Surviving are his wife, Frances; a niece; and a nephew.

VOORHEESVILLE - Bruce Alfred Houghton, 70, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in Guilderland Center. Bruce was a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School, Hudson Valley Community College, and the Institute of Design and Construction in New York City. He began his career as an architectural designer in New York City and Albany, before accepting the position of superintendent of buildings and grounds for the Bethlehem Central School District, a position he held for 30 years.
Bruce is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Cheryl (Carlstrom) Houghton; his daughter, Kristin Houghton Richard; his son, Ted Houghton; his daughter-in-law Mary Houghton , his sister, Janet Ingraham; and brother-in–law, the Honorable Irad Ingraham; and his beloved grandchildren, Zachary Richard and Fiona Houghton.
Bruce devoted a good portion of his life serving his community. He was a former member of the Slingerlands Fire Department and a former captain with the Slingerlands Rescue Squad. In addition, he was involved with New Scotland Kiwanis, Voorheesville Babe Ruth, Guilderland Pop Warner, and helped to found New Scotland Pop Warner. He was also an active member of the New Scotland Republican Party, the Concerned Citizens of New Scotland, and the Voorheesville Rod and Gun Club.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service which will be conducted on Friday, June 8 at 3 p.m. from the Voorheesville First United Methodist Church, 68 Maple Ave., Voorheesville, NY 12186. A calling hour will be observed starting at 2 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Voorheesville Area Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 238, Voorheesville, NY 12186. Published in Albany Times Union from June 6 to June 8, 2012
