Waldo E. Houghton, 80, of 314 Spring St., a retired Hannaford Bros. Co employee, died last night in a local nursing home after a long illness. Born in Chelsea, Mass., 8ept. 17, 1883, son of Edmund W. and Ellen I. Cowles Houghton, he graduated from Boston English High School in 1901 and came to Maine the following year. He was employed by the Great Northern Paper Co. and in 1917 started work for Hannaford Bros., working for the wholesale grocery firm for more than 25 years.
Mr. Houghton was a member of the First Universalist Church; Euclid Lodge, AF&AM. Madison: Mt. Vernon Chapter, RAM: Portland Commandery; Portland Council and Haddatah Lodge. IOOF. Surviving are two nieces and a cousin.
