ResearchThompson: Until May, 2000 we had her as Adeline, as she was always known, but first name of Mary appears on death record of daughter Mary A. She was slender and may have died of quick consumption.

In Vermont Vital Records microfilm at NEHG, Boston, she is listed as "barmaid" in birth record of daughter Carrie Belle

Obituary from "Vermont Phoenix" Brattleboro, Friday April 14, 1899, copy at the Brooks Memorial Library, Brattleboro, Vt.:

"Mrs. Calvin Houghton died Saturday and the funeral was held at the house
on Wednesday at 10:00 o'clock, Rev. H. B. Morgan officiating. The burial was in the West Cemetery."

Betsy Chickering, town clerk of West Chesterfield, did two searches for a death record for Adeline and could not find any record of her death. The obituary and the memorial stone at the cemetery seem to be the only places recording the death. West Chesterfield Universalist Church records do not show any listing of the service.13
