MARYVILLE. Mo. — Floyd B Houghton Sr.. 87, Maryville, died Tuesday, April 6. 1993, at a Kansas City hospital.
Mr. Houghton had been a teacher, principal and superintendent for 17 years in 1939, he joined the faculty at Northwest Missouri State University as an instructor in the animal science department, retiring in 1982 He traveled extensively, making two trips to the Soviet Union, where he studied the agriculture of that country
Born near Jamesport, Mo., he was graduated from Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College at Maryville with a bachelor of science degree and the University of Missouri at Columbia with a master’s degree He did graduate work at Iowa State University at Ames.

Mr. Houghton was a member of the First Christian Church, Maryville; Nodaway County Angus Association; National Angus Association and Missouri Retired Teacher's Association. He was past president of the Maryville Host Lions Club and was elected to the Ag Hall of Fame by the Northwest Missouri Beef Improvement Association. Mr. Houghton also was named Man of the Year by the Missouri Junior Angus Association.
He was preceded in death by two brothers. Boyd and Elmer; and two sisters, Fern Poe and an infant.
In 1930, he married the former Marzella Clary at St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors: a son, F.B Jr. of Maryville; two sisters, Alice Dinwiddie of Boise, Idaho, and Mary E Sanders of Phoenix, Ariz; and a grandchild.

Mrs. Houghton, a homemaker, was a member of the Civil Bend Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard B., in 1976; an infant daughter; and two infant sons. Surviving: a son, George of Lakeland, Fla; six grandchildren; and 10
great-grandchildren.
Graveside service and burial: 2 p.m. Monday, at the Civil Bend Christian Cemetery, Pattonsburg, Mo. Visitation: after noon today, at the Hope Funeral Home, Gallatian, Mo.
