Moline, IL, USA, Mrs. Amy Houghton GALVA - Mrs. Amy Wiley: Houghton, 87. daughter of a Galva pioneer family, died yesterday; morning in the home of her son-in-law and
daughter, Morton D. Prouty, 2627 14th Ave., Moline where she had resided for many years. She was bom in Galva April 21, 1868. Her parents helped to found the town of Galva a hundred years ago. She was married to Orrin Seldon Houghton, son of E. W. Houghton, founder of the Houghton LumberCo., in 1886. She had two children: Earle Wiley Houghton and Flora Houghton Prouty. Her husband and son preceded her in death.
She was librarian in Kewanec and Galva libraries for 11 years. She was a member of the Galva Congregational Church and one of the oldest members of the Pi Beta
Phi Sorority, joining at the time it was known as IC Sororis. Both she and her daughter were members of the Knox Chapter.
She had been an invalid for the last 25 yearn, and carried on a large correspondence during World War I with soldiers from Galva. This earned her the name of "Legion Mother. Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Morton Prouty of Moline, three grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren.

Mr. Houghton leaves three daughters, Mrs. M A Sapplngton. Ogden. Utah: Mrs. W H. Golrisbury. Pauls Valley. Ok . and Miss Ina M. Houghton of the home: two sons. Clarence I. Houghton. 3413 East Sixtieth street, and H. A. Houghton. Trinidad. Tex; two brothers. E L. Houghton Lvford. Tex. and I 1 Houghton. Marshalltown. Ia . and one sister, Mrs Emma Stickney knew Brattleboro, Vt.
