Mrs. Alice Y. Houghton. 88. of Dalton, died Saturday afternoon in the Hillcrest nursing home in Massillon, where she had been a patient five months. She was the widow of Eugene Houghton, owner and operator of the oldest pottery in the state. . Mrs. Houghton was a member of the Dalton Methodist church. She is survived by a son, Victor Houghton, fire chief at Dalton; a daughter. Mrs. W. R. Rudy of Rocky River; three sisters. Mrs. Esther Briedensteiu of Dayton: Mrs. Grace Sawyer of Barberton and Mrs. Ida Metzger of Canton; eight grandchildren, nine greatgrandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.

ObituaryJun 14, 1974Victor W. Houghton, 65, of 115 S. Mill st, Dalton, a former chief of Dalton Volunteer Fire Department, died suddenly early today in his residence. He had been a lifetime resident of the Dalton area, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Houghton. He was formerly employed as a carpenter in the Republic Steel Corp. plant in Massillon and after his retirement combined hobby and business of candlemaking. Earlier he and his wife, the former Dorothy C. O’Donnell operated a pottery company, manufacturing ceramicware and dinnerware.
BiographyIn 1955, the youngest and only surviving son of Eugene Houghton. Had a retail shop, selling pottery, gazing globes, urns, etc. on Route 30 between Dalton and Massillon.1
